MANTA BOWL SHOAL

This is an underwater atoll that is 7 to 8 hectares in size. The shoal is located in the midst of the ocean, with little protection from the winds and waves.

Experienced diver certification is required. Diver has advanced open water skills. Open Water Divers with fewer than 20 dives will need to hire a personal guide.

DIVE SITES

The BOWL
When you initially descend into the Shoal, it appears to be lifeless, but with the abundance of cleaner wrasse and remora, it becomes a great cleaning and feeding site for large ocean species. This is where you'll see the most Manta Rays and Whale Sharks, as well as the occasional Thresher Sharks.
20 to 23 meters
ROCK POINT
The bottom formations of Rock Point are a beautiful mix of coral, rock, and sand. It's a fascinating dive because there are so many places to hide from the current and see the reef in action — it's like sitting in a movie theater, watching the reef fish frolic and feed in the current. Schools of reef fish such as surgeons, fusiliers, butterfly fish, and damsels can be found. Because you can hide behind rocks, it's possible to have a dramatic encounter with a manta ray.
Depending on the tide, the depth ranges from 12 to 15 meters.
SHARK APARTMENT
The large boulders strewn across the sandy bottom are home to full-grown white tip sharks. Reef fish such as banners and angels can be seen hovering above. The boulders have transformed this area into a haven for bottom dwellers like groupers.
Depth of 18 meters
TUNA ALLEY
For skip jack tuna and barracuda, this is a busy route. They create a thick wall of fish that can stretch for a kilometer due to their overwhelming numbers. When a school of sardines passes by, the aquatic predators become excited.
Depth of 25 meters
SWEETLIPS PLACE
Sweetlips dwell peacefully beneath a mushroom-shaped rock here. Divers don't seem to bother the sweetlips here. It's incredible how near the fish can be approached. Near the sweetlips' home, smaller and more colorful reef fish frolic.
